I am an NPC competitive heavyweight bodybuilder.
Growing up with an older brother beating the crap out of me daily made me get into the gym to get bigger and stronger and eventually this led me into bodybuilding.
At age 13 I started weightlifting in my basement, watching my older brother Billy and following his workouts. Billy and I used to go down there and blast the boombox to Led Zepplin “Black Dog” lifting our sand-filled weights. I was always trying to keep up with him and his friends and this competitive drive led me to take bodybuilding more seriously and turn it into a competitive career.
Currently I do most of my training at “American Family Fitness” in Granite City Illinois. If I am in St Louis, I always fit in some training at “The Fitness Vault”. My wife and I have cardio equipment at home so I usually do my cardio at home either after my son goes to bed or before he wakes up in the morning.
It used to be chest until I tore my pec last year. I always like to train arms because they have always responded well to heavy lifting.
I am a husband, a dad and a registered nurse in Cardiac Care.
I try to bring a variety of topics from bodybuilding and nutrition to health and wellness. I love to answer reader questions in hopes of educating others and sharing my own personal experience and views.
Determined. I am a very goal oriented individual and once I achieve a goal that I have set for myself, I have my sights set on the next challenge and how I will tackle it.
Sour Patch Kids and Swedish Fish. Whenever I compete, I always go to Sam’s Club before the competition and buy the biggest bag of Sour Patch Kids that they sell and prepare for a big candy feast after the show is over.
I feel that in life we face obstacles every day. I can’t pinpoint one particular incident that would be the biggest obstacle for me. My view is that obstacles are merely speedbumps and that you must persevere and keep moving.
Honesty. It sounds like a cliché, but it’s the Gods’ honest truth (no pun intended). I have met so many people in my 37 years of life, and I can say that I haven’t met an honest person that I didn’t like.
“Success rests not only in ability, but upon commitment, loyalty and pride.”- Vince Lombardi
The birth of my son, Brady, was the happiest moment in my life. Creating life and laying your eyes on your newborn baby is truly the most amazing experience. I love being a dad- there’s nothing like it.
Fear of failing is my biggest motivator. I continually set goals for myself and I always aim to achieve them by any means necessary. Not reaching a goal is the worst feeling you can have and I work very hard to not let this happen. It is what motivates me to train hard, diet hard and work my ass off to succeed.
Dying young is my biggest fear. I don’t want to abandon my family and I want to live a long healthy life so that I can be a part of my children’s lives as they grow.
My wife forces me to watch the TV show “Glee”….and I like it☺ I often find myself watching re-runs on DVR when there’s nothing else on TV.
