Tattoo Artist | Fort Lauderdale. FL
My name is Marisa LaRen I am 24yrs old, a professional tattoo artist, and bodybuilder. Growing up I was always playing sports. Varsity softball and golf all through high school and an avid snowboarder. When I got to my first year of college that all changed. I ended up succumbing to a party lifestyle causing me to gain over 55 lbs in my first 3 months there. I was unhappy mentally and physically so I decided to make a change. In 2009 I started weight lifting for the first time in my life... I fell in love. Recently after I ended up in a really bad snowboarding accident. I compressed all the discs in my spine and lost an inch in height. This spurred multiple more injuries and problems. Weight lifting helps me deal and mediate my chronic pain. In 2013 I decided to commit to doing my first fitness competition; that was the extra push I needed to pursue the fitness industry and a career in it. My journey was never easy. I had so many ups and downs throughout my life and it took many years to get me where I am today. It was not quick or easy. I wouldn't have it any other way.
MY "AHA" MOMENT
I've had a couple aha moments in my life that stand out. But one in particular. I was bullied in middle school a lot and when I hit high school I was unsure of who I was. I was depressed. I got to my lowest point and i could have either ended it all or I could choose to pick my self up. I made a conscious decision to change my way of thinking. I was letting other people have control over my emotions and allowing people's opinions to change me. I started then to be myself no matter what. To own my shit and never look back. To never settle and be so unapologetically me that people will take notice.
MY SOURCE OF INSPIRATION
There is not one source that I gain inspiration from. I'm constantly inspired by others around me and people I have never met before. Seeing people triumph in the face of defeat is so inspirational. Also seeing that I have inspired others motivates me more than anything. I never expected to inspire anyone and now that I have I never want to stop.
THE NEVER SETTLE ATTITUDE
Never settle is more than just a motto it's a standard of living. I have always been a firm believer that you should never limit yourself. That never settling means that no one will do the work for you. That we have the ability to be whoever and whatever we want in life. It's choosing to make that happens that makes a difference. We should never settle for ordinary when our potential is so much greater. Believing that I will never settle pushes me Harder every day to be better and do better.
Honestly becoming a 1stphorm athlete is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It was the first time since becoming a tattoo artist that I wanted to be a part of something bigger than me. This company stands for everything I believe in and is a community of inspiring people trying to change the industry and the world for the better. The bar is higher than ever for me now!
THE THING THAT KEEPS ME GOING
Ultimately I am the only person who can stand in my way of my dreams and goals. No one is going to do the work for me. Knowing that I'm the only thing standing in my way keeps me moving forward. Knowing that by pursuing my dreams it helps others believe they can achieve theirs. I never expected to inspire people. Knowing I have makes me want to keep going.
THE END GOAL
I don't believe in limiting myself. There are so many things I want to accomplish. I want to adapt and grow with every achievement. I want to change lives and show people that they can be themselves. That you don't have to let society dictate who you are. To never settle for ordinary and to push harder everyday!! I just want to kill everything ;)
