What got you into fitness
I played basketball from the time I was young, all the way through college. I was a point guard that also played in the post. When my dreams of playing professional ball didn't pan out, I decided to use my exercise science degree to pursue a career in the fitness industry. In 2007, I became a Personal Trainer and have been ever since.
What's Your Source if Inspiration
My mother inspires me because she worked her ass off to provide for my family when I was growing up. I didn’t realize that we were poor until I went to college and experienced life outside of my neighborhood. She wanted to make me feel like I had the same opportunity as other kids my age. She instilled confidence in me. Her ability to create opportunities out of nothing gave me the impression that we had everything, when we really didn’t have much.
What's Your Go-To Cheat Meal
Pancakes because they're pancakes. And yes ... I eat them with my hands!
What's Your Favorite TV Show
I like watching old episodes of Martin because even to this day it's hilarious!
What Does 'Never Settle' Mean To You
For me, 'Never Settle' is the best mentality to have. It's very straight forward, and there is nothing fancy about it. While you may not be perfect on the 1st try, or the 10th ... we don't quit. Once we reach the goal, we start pursuing the next one!
What's Your Biggest Achievement
It's between a few things ... I'm the first in my family to graduate college, winning the 1st Phorm Elite Trainer title, and helping a number of people lose 100's of pounds!
What Keeps You Going
I am fortunate enough to experience what it's like to have nothing. What drives me is knowing that if I quit, I would have to go back to living that way.
How Has 1st Phorm Changed Your Life
1st Phorm has changed my life completely. I remember sitting at my desk in 2014, feeling disgusted with all the fake bullshit taking place in the industry. I came across Andy’s video about the 1st Phorm Athlete Search and how we were going to change that. We were going to make it ok to be real again. I resonated with that message and I knew I had to be a part of it.
1st Phorm changed my life because it was the breath of fresh air that I needed when I started to lose faith in the fitness industry. I finally became part of the Phamily, and was pleasantly surprised to connect with so many people that actually care. I’m closer with the friends I’ve made through 1st Phorm than I am with some of my blood relatives. Deep down we all have the desire to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. That’s one of the many opportunities 1st Phorm has given me. For that, I am forever grateful.
